| Teen Whole
Life Therapy Program:
Teen Whole Life Therapy is a two-week residential session
hosted on the Salve Regina University campus in beautiful
Newport, RI. We host participants from all over the country.
The program provides life skills
development, sports and recreation and independent-living
mentoring to teenagers 13 to 17 years old, with traumatic
spinal cord injury as well as congenital neurological disorders.
Teen Whole Life is built around the
commitment to help young people work towards independent living:
transitioning away from reliance on their parents and towards
responsibility for their personal care, education and life
goals. The profile for these programs is primarily that of the
disabled young person preparing to go to college or live on
their own.
This program’s holistic approach
coupled with its top notch, experienced and credentialed staff
of therapists, counselors and mentors assists participants to
develop the physical, mental and emotional skills necessary to
maximize their potential for independent living and community
involvement.
Teen Life Therapy is unique in that
its residential nature allows for powerful peer-to-peer
interaction. The
knowledge that is gained from each other is as valuable as what
is learned from staff as the participants prepare for the rigors
of college and other post-secondary career choices.
Participants in Teen Life Therapy
push each other to experience new challenges, learn proven
techniques on how to problem-solve the unique accessibility
challenges the community presents, and they establish lasting
relationships that cannot be found in traditional rehabilitation
centers.
This summer,
the Teen Whole Life Therapy session will be from Sunday, July
20th to Saturday, August 2nd, 2008.
The session is limited to 13 participants –first come,
first served.
Program fees, room and board for the two weeks is $2,800
and need-based scholarships are available upon request.
