Confidence is Cool  Kids' Camp:

Shake-A-Leg’s Confidence is Cool Kids' Camp is a recreational day camp provided to children, ages 7-12 disabled by neurological dysfunction, and is designed to fill a void in summer programming available for children with physical disabilities.  The participants have different levels of ability and come from all over New England with one goal in mind – to have fun!

Confidence Is Cool operates with an overall goal of providing participating children with a supportive environment that allows them to build confidence and self-esteem.  The recreational activities in which they will participate are designed to meet their needs and abilities.

During the camp day children are given opportunities to move beyond their disabilities, to swim and move freely, to try their hands at sailing the boat, play mobility games, take nature walks along the Norman Bird Sanctuary’s new accessible trails and many other activities that promote new friendships, builds confidence and emphasizes fun!

The Kids’ Camp staff offers a wide range of resources and capabilities. Several have disabilities as well, which provides a very unique mentoring opportunity for the children. Licensed and registered nurses are able to meet any medical needs. Counselors and volunteers are energetic and fun and form special friendships with the children.

The program is designed to accommodate up to 15 participants per weekly session. Three weekly camps are scheduled beginning July 7th, July 21st and August 4th in 2008.

The camps operate from 10am to 3pm, Monday through Friday.   Tuition is $75 per week and need-based scholarships are available upon request.

Need a Ride? RIPTA (The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority) offers a special transit program for those who are unable to use their regular bus services.  Give us a call and we can put you in touch with several parents who found success with this program last year.
